I have long been skeptical about the prospect of a Supergirl series, not because I didn’t think it could work, but because of the immense obstacles involved in making it work well. Not only do you have to give Supergirl a place in a television landscape overrun by male heroes, but you have to allow her to escape the looming shadow of her more famous Supercousin, and do so with special effects that don’t look terrible on a television budget.
Luckily, all of my doubts were proven wrong by the pilot episode of the upcoming CBS series, which debuted at San Diego Comic-Con last night. Supergirl flies high in her premiere and stakes her own claim amidst the other television heroes like Arrow and The Flash.
You can read my full (slightly spoilery) review of the pilot episode here.
Will you be tuning in to Supergirl when it premieres in October?
