Editorial: In Defense Of Warner Brothers’ “Filmmaker-Driven” Approach To The DC CInematic Universe

Blog, Film

Early this week, THR released a piece on some of the perceived struggles currently happening behind closed doors at Warner Bros. as the studio maps out the burgeoning DC Cinematic Universe, which began with 2013’s Man of Steel, and will jump into high gear once Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad hit theaters next year.

The report had a lot to say about the differences between the DC and Marvel approach to the shared universe formula, but I didn’t quite agree with all of the writer’s conclusions, and was especially taken aback by how the internet reacted to the news.

Here’s a piece I wrote for Flickering Myth – in response to the THR story – about why I think the so-called “filmmaker-driven” approach that WB is taking could actually be the best thing for the DC Cinematic Universe, and the superhero genre as a whole.
