sw_anh_5I and 22 of Flickering Myth’s staff writers and editorial staff took it upon ourselves to rank the greatest science fiction films of all time! This was a lot of fun to contribute to, but man was it hard. Science fiction is undoubtedly my favorite genre, and it seems like each year we get new contenders to challenge the great sci-fi films of yore. This year alone, we’ve seen movies like Edge of Tomorrow, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and Guardians of the Galaxy that could arguably be added to a list like this, and likely will be someday. How awesome is that?

Of the 22 contributors, 71 films were suggested as the best science fiction films of all time, which were painstakingly boiled down to 10. Check out that list here, and see my personal list below. What would you consider the greatest science fiction film ever? Sound off in the comments.

Here are my 10:

1. Star Wars
2. Back to the Future
3. The Empire Strikes Back
4. District 9
5. The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951)
6. Inception
7. Alien
8. Blade Runner
9. Planet of the Apes (1968)
10. Terminator 2: Judgement Day
